Professional Scrum Master
The Professional Scrum Master (PSM) training is a 2-day course that covers the principles and empirical process theory of Scrum and agility, the Scrum framework itself, and the specific role of the Scrum Master. These are foundational insights upon which the rules and roles of Scrum are explored and discussed. The focus on the Scrum Master role includes advanced thinking tools for servant-leadership and behavioral shifts, working with people and teams, coaching and facilitation, and scaling Scrum.
We are probably best known for our expertise in scrum, Lean, Kanban and XP. As coaches, we come alongside your teams and help them grow through mentoring, feedback and powerful questions appropriate to their team maturity level. We also observe key meetings, and provide one-on-one coaching for Scrum Masters and Product Owners. We also work with the leadership team to help address organizational impediments and support the teams with servant leadership. Our experience has shown that within 4-6 sprints, teams require little or no coaching and are well on their way to self-organization.
Agile and Scrum Training for Teams (2-days)
Agile Team Jumpstart Training is a hands-on workshop that will get your team up and running with Scrum in just two days. Teams learn about the Agile values and principles and the Scrum framework including the Scrum meetings, roles and artifacts. Teams work together to create a product vision, build a backlog, break down work into user stories, and conduct their first sprint planning meeting. This course is designed as “whole-team” training which maximizes the team-building aspects and promotes team maturity.
Agile for Leaders
This one-day course provides a concise overview of current Agile methods and the benefits of each, the types of problems that can be solved using Scrum and Agile, and the leadership skills needed to be effective with Agile teams. Participants will learn how to effectively support and lead Agile teams to maximize the benefits of Agile in their organization.
Agile Project Management for Professionals (3 or 4 days)
Agile Project Management for Professionals is a workshop style course that will teach participants the principles and values of Agile, and help them apply Agile practices and techniques to their current projects. This is a highly interactive course that leverages real world examples from Scrum, Lean, Kanban and other Agile methods. Participants will work in teams to experience and apply Agile to the course exercises. This course meets the PMI-ACP® education requirements.
Planning, Estimating and Tracking Agile Projects (2-days)
Agile estimating and planning helps to get a project off on solid footing. Planning for Agile projects starts with the big picture of product roadmaps and release plans, and drills down into the work that an Agile team will do within an iteration. Participants will learn how to plan for iterative and incremental solution development, and how to address change in a plan.
The course also looks at the two types of estimates used on agile projects, relative estimates in story points and absolute estimates in ideal days. Participants will learn when to use each of these, and how to include the entire team for more accurate estimates that team members will support.
Team Assessments and Surveys
Team level assessments provide insights into team health, performance, and maturity. Vitality Chicago Inc. offers a Scrum Adoption assessment which measures 50 key adoption criteria and provides a gauge of the team's maturity. We also offer a Team Survey which captures team member opinions about 12 key team dimensions. Both surveys can be used quarterly to help teams see strengths and weaknesses, areas where they have improved, and areas where they may want to further improve. Vitality Chicago Inc. can also make recommendations to managers and leaders regarding systemic challenges or patterns seen across teams.
Planning for Agile Adoption or Transformation
Taking on an Agile Transformation is a big deal. Our coaches have experience working with teams and can help with planning for success.
Planning a transformation generally starts with a Transformation Roadmap. We will work with you to determine the organizational structures that will support Agile and Scrum adoption as well as to identify organizational impediments. We can recommend selection criteria for an Agile pilot project and get started planning that pilot with product roadmaps and initial product backlogs. We can strategize on forming Scrum Teams, identify skill gaps, and develop training plans for success. We can help you to map out appropriate space for your team to co-locate, select tools, and everything else required to set your team up for success.
